What is Turmeric ?

According to Ayurveda, the turmeric is called as “ Haridhra” means which improves skin complexion and cleanse the skin, that could be reason why  many south Indian women still use it as external application on face and foot as well as a spice.  Evidence is showing that in India and Sri Lanka, its been used for more than 5000 years to treat wide range of ailments.

In Ayurvedic Medicine it is used as predominantly used for the management of Diabetes, used in toxic conditions and wounds as antiseptic, used in urinary infections, upper respiratory tract conditions, itchy conditions, Intetinal worms, running nose and anorexia.  As an external application it is used to reduce the inflammation and swelling along with that it promotes the skin complexion that could be the reason Turmeric go its name as “hairdhra” in Sanskrit language.

TASTE: ( RASA): Thikthakam (Bitter) and Katu Rasa (Pungent)

PROPERTY (GUNA): Rookshanam ( Dry) and Laghu (Light)

POST DIGESTIVE EFFECT (VIPAKA): Pungent ( Katu)

POTENCY ( VEERYA): Hot in nature

EFFECT: it balances all tridosha, but excess consumption during summer may cause aggravation of pitta.
